Special Relativity and Field Theory

Richard Corrado (UIUC Physics)

Abstract: We will begin the transition from quantum mechanics to quantum field theories by discussing spacetime symmetries, including some representation theory of the Poincare group.

Topological lower volume bounds for hyperbolic 3-manifolds

Peter A. Storm (Stanford University )

Abstract: I will outline some of the geometric and topological tools used obtain lower volume bounds for hyperbolic 3-manifolds with boundary. I'll focus on a few specific examples which should elucidate the origin of these lower bounds. The talk will be aimed at a general mathematical audience. Hosts: R. Ghrist and C. Leininger
