Classifying Principal Torus Bundles

Abstract: Given a manifold M and a torus T, one can ask if there exists a principal T-bundle, P, with base space M. We will discuss the topological answer using the cohomology of M and explicitly construct the relevant classes using the geometry of P and Chern-Weil theory. We will then see how one may use this classification to describe all T-invariant symplectic structures on P for which the action of T is Hamiltonian in the special case dim(M)=dim(T). Examples will abound.
