Embedding E_0

Travis Nell (UIUC)

Abstract: We will read the paper An embedding theorem of E_0 with model theoretic applications" by Kaplan and Miller (http://arxiv.org/pdf/1308.5515v1.pdf)

(Topological) Hochschild Homology

Juan Villeta-Garcia (UIUC Math)

Abstract: We will give a brief introduction to Hochschild homology of rings and derive some of its main properties. We will then motivate topological Hochschild homology (THH), and use the ring-theoretic approach as a source of intuition (particularly in the "brave new algebra" interpretation of THH). If time permits, we will mention how THH arises as a stabilization of K-theory.
