#### Harnack inequalities for degenerate diffusions

###### Camelia Pop (Hans Rademacher Instructor, University of Pennsylvania)

Abstract: We establish the scale-invariant Harnack inequality for nonnegative solutions to the parabolic equation defined by a class of degenerate parabolic equations arising in population genetics. The class of operators considered in our article are the generalized Kimura diffusion operators introduced in the work of Charles Epstein and Rafe Mazzeo. Our method of the proof is probabilistic, and one of our intermediary results is a stochastic representation of weak solutions to a degenerate parabolic equation with singular lower-order coefficients which is a considerable generalization of the classical results on Feynman-Kac formulas.

#### A journey into hyperbolic geometry

###### Xinghua Gao (UIUC Math)

Abstract: Hyperbolic geometry has profound applications to the study of topology of two- and three-dimensional manifolds and many other fields. In this talk I'll briefly discuss about hyperbolic space, hyperbolic manifolds and hyperbolic knots. I'll also tell you some interesting facts in hyperbolic geometry.
