#### Benford's Law: A Universal Law on Digit Patterns in Mathematics, Physics, Nature, and Economics

###### Narken Aimambet, Chingis Matayev, and Alisher Urazbekov (Nazarbayev University)

Abstract: Benford's Law is a mysterious mathematical formula on digit patterns that has been found to apply to a wide range of data sets from Mathematics, Physics, nature, and Economics, and is being used to aid in fraud detection. The speakers are students from Nazarbayev University in Kazakhstan who have been participating in an REU Summer Program, and this presentation will be the culmination of their work over the past six weeks. They will provide an introduction to Benford's Law and showcase their own work in this area.
