**Abstract:** Coadjoint orbits are fundamental objects in symplectic geometry. Much is known about the symplectic geometry of compact coadjoint orbits. For non-compact ones a fundamental question is finding out whether they are symplectomorphic to some well known standard symplectic manifolds. In this survey talk we will describe several cases in which the answer is positive, trying to present a common framework.
