#### The art of cubing: The mathematics behind Rubik's cube

###### Khoa Tran (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign)

Abstract: What are some useful permutations for the Rubik's Cube? Which configurations are possible given that we can only do certain possible moves? In this talk, we will first gain some understanding about the Cube by abstracting it using Group Theory. We will focus on the Symmetric Group and the parity homomorphism, their application on the Cube, and various subgroups that can be easily illustrated on the Cube.
