Democratic Access to Mathematics Learning: How Can We Learn to Give Students Feedback Across Identity Difference?

Dr. Esther Enright (Boise State University)

Abstract: This workshop introduces an explicit method instructors can use to give students feedback in their college mathematics classrooms. The method, called Wise Feedback, protects students in college mathematics classrooms under stereotype threat, improving their access to learning. Giving Wise Feedback also supports college mathematics instructors in building relationships, being explicit about learning goals, and creating democratic access to learning for all students. During the workshop, we will learn about stereotype threat, how the Wise Feedback model works, and practice delivering Wise Feedback.
