Panel: Writing Grant Applications

Philipp Hieronymi, Vera Hur, Jennifer Mcneilly, Alexander Yong (UIUC)

Abstract: Postdocs, lecturers and faculty in general must face oftentimes the task of writing applications for grants: NSF, travel grants, teaching reduction, etc. The idea of this panel is to bring together some members of our faculty, with recognized success in grant applications, to share their thoughts on the subject and to answer questions from the audience.

Factorization Algebra and Spaces

Matej Penciak (Illinois Math)

Abstract: In this talk I will introduce the notions of factorization algebras and spaces, and give an idea of where they fit into modern representation theory.

Outreach Information Session

Abstract: Come learn about activities the Illinois Geometry Lab runs in the local community throughout the year, and how to get involved! The Illinois Geometry Lab holds many events throughout the semester to engage with the public. These events include information tables at events around town, trips to classrooms, and field trips to the lab. No prior experience with outreach is necessary. The IGL will hold training sessions later this semester which will cover the necessary math background. All outreach activities are staffed by teams of volunteers. Outreach events are a great way to learn how to work with a general audience and to take math out into our community. We have events for all different ages and math backgrounds, and there is no prerequisite to volunteer! You can sign up for our mailing list at https://lists.illinois.edu/lists/subscribe/igl-outreach. Feel free to contact the IGL at igl@math.uiuc.edu with any questions.
