Endomorphisms of B(H)

Chris Linden (UIUC Math)

Abstract: We will discuss a connection between the representation theory of Cuntz algebras and the classification of endomorphisms of B(H). No background in operator algebras will be assumed.

Math, Visualization, and Experimentation: How I came to love computing

Kenneth Stephenson (University of Tennessee)

Abstract: I will discuss (some of) what I have learned in building and using my software package "CirclePack". One could happily confine oneself to circle packing theory; but then one would miss the visualizations; and the visualizations depend on software; and the software enables experiments; and the experiments lead to surprising new visualizations; and this all contributes to new theory --- and to unexpected applications! What could be more fun?
